Documentation

Documenting your network is a time consuming but vital task. Complete and up-to-date documentation of your systems and how they interact is not only "best practice", but is also essential for proper reconfiguration in the event of a disaster.  Another benefit of a well documented infrastructure is having a single, comprehensive destination for:

  • Capacity planning
  • Information for insurance and tax requirements
  • Troubleshooting
  • Disaster recovery
  • Company IT policies
  • Systems configuration
  • Emergency contacts
  • Warranty information and status
  • Licensing
  • Vendors and suppliers

Detailed, accurate systems configuration information is something you should expect and demand from your technology provider.  It should be an ongoing, living document to provide the greatest benefit. Often, consultants will either fail to prepare adequate documentation, or will refuse to provide copies to their customers.  At Blueline Computer, we use standard documentation templates and adjust them to address the specific details of your infrastructure. Additionally, we consider this information to be the property of the customer, and provide it upon request.
